Alexandra Park (Manchester)

If you are in the mood for a bit of historic immersion, go to this 60-acre park in Whalley Range. Opened in 1870, its initial purpose was to deter the working men of Manchester from the alehouses during their day off, and to encourage them instead to spend time with their families pursuing morally and physically healthier activities. Features include a lime walk, raised terrace walk and bandstand.
