Summit Gap and Railway Tunnel

This important crossing point hosts the longest railway tunnel (2869 yards), when built by George Stephenson in 1841, the highest point on the Rochdale, an ancient packhorse route and turnpike road. It is also close to the source of both the Yorkshire river Calder and the Lancashire river Roche.
