Greater Manchester Steps up Effort to Attract Walkers
3rd June 2011
Put on those walking boots and hit the trails, tow paths and way-marked routes of Greater Manchester.
That’s the rallying call from a new project determined to put a spring in the step of walkers visiting Manchester’s Countryside.
Sixteen walking trails showcasing the region’s natural and industrial heritage were revealed on Wednesday (25th May 2011) as part of the re-launch of the Manchester’s Countryside Project.
From the towers and turrets around Bolton to the breathtaking and remote moorlands of Rochdale, the new trails form one of a number of new experiences and attractions that are on offer to the millions of people who enjoy the British Countryside.
The Walking Trails offer three to six mile treks around areas including Bolton, Bury, Rochdale, Oldham, Wigan, Salford and Stockport taking in hills, dales, valleys, areas of outstanding natural beauty, Sites of Special Scientific Interest, lakes and waterways, historic houses, and quaint villages.
